About

Overview

Lucy’s Hearth serves homeless mothers and their children through an emergency shelter program, a transitional apartment program, a permanent apartment program and an outreach and aftercare program. We primarily serve Newport County residents, but warmly welcome residents from other areas of the state when beds are available.

Shelter is Just the Beginning

During their involvement with Lucy’s Hearth, mothers work toward their high school equivalency degrees, improve English language skills, learn job search and financial management skills and obtain employment. Their children attend school, receive assistance with homework, take field trips, and receive clothing and toys.

Our Mission

To provide comprehensive programs and services to homeless families in a safe, supportive environment that promotes family health and stability.

Our Numbers

Over the course of a year, we serve in the range of 45 mothers and 80 children through our emergency shelter, transitional apartment and permanent apartment programs, for a total of nearly 10,000 shelter and transitional bed nights, with nearly 23,000 meals served.

Our Location

In October 2016, we relocated to our new facility at 19 Valley Road in Middletown.

Our History

Lucy’s Hearth was incorporated in 1984 and opened as an overnight shelter with one staff person and a dedicated group of volunteers. As need increased, we became a 24-hour shelter and expanded.  More
